Evaluation of AMEDS Rehabilitation Program at Columna Medical in Lask

This is my second visit at the rehab. The first one in 2013 really made a big difference, and so did the second one 2014.

MS is a difficult disease to live with. Symptoms are not only multiple, they are also different during the day. There are many column inches written about how MS may occur in the individual patient. I will stress the importance of individual programs for every patient. You will not find a standard solution for rehab that will suit the lot.

Cognition and Fatigue

One of the symptoms that many with MS are suffering from are cognitive impairment. It can be one of the symptoms that is the most debilitating for the individual. Firstly, it is difficult to define in the diagnosis, and secondly, it is difficult to treat. The cognitive downturn is possible to live with, if the MS patient gets the right conditions in their everyday lives.

The most important thing is to stay in a peaceful environment. It is also of utmost importance to have a daily schedule that suits the individual. The schedule should not be pushed; there must be plenty of time between activities. MS also has a number of other means affects day. What is possible to do one day, may not work the next.

That brings me to the next point, which is fatigue. It is obvious that the one thing triggering the other. If not the energy or the mental strength is in balance, you cannot undertake any sense at all. That is why it is important to have time for recovery. You cannot make a schedule that is uniform for all patients, it must be adapted to the individual.

Columna Medica has absolutely the physical ability to handle the problems that may occur with cognition and fatigue. I have experienced that, I was part of design my own schedule from the beginning. What I may lack, is to be informed good time in advance what changes in todays schedule will be. It's also important that the changes made in consultation with the patient. I know we are a difficult patient group, but MS is a difficult disease to manage.

Diet

The importance of a good diet has been like a red thread through the stay here. The diet, along with exercise, is doing the greatest benefit in rehabilitation. I along with many others with MS have just the problem to get the time out the day to suffice. Then it becomes more common to buy processed foods and alleviate hunger with something sweet.

The diet advises I got the first day I have followed all the time. I had some tuff nights the first week. After a couple days I was detoxed from sugar and life become easier. Today I am in very good shape, and I can regret not starting LCHF diet earlier.

You must have a discipline as a patient on the diet to work over time. It is easy to comfort eating, and then collected easily pounds around the stomach. When the body does not function, as it should it become increasingly difficult to move.

The kitchen here at Columna Medica has cooked a much better food than I could have imagined with the harsh restrictions around detoxification. What I've learned here I will

take home with me everyday. The seven kilos I lost shall be remaining here.

Training

The survey conducted before the training program was posted were impressive. Every function was carefully examined both medically and physically. The easy part was the medical. I've been through it countless times. The physiological study impressed. They lasted one day with a number of tests, both of different abilities and strengths. After that my personal program was defined.

In my case, it was totally impossible to walk without aids, and I did use the wheelchair most of the time. Dagmara Somow was my therapist who established the program in consultation with Joseph Hesslinger last time I was in Poland. It is impressive how well the assessment was made, and how Dagmara has moved positions based on my daily progress. Now, after three weeks I can walk without crutches indoors up to 5-10meters, I will take them outdoors or if the indoor distance is longer.

To achieve the level I am at today, we have used;

-Redcord system for stability and strength

-Gym for weight training and other physical exercises -Basin for coordination training

-Massage

-Hydrotherapy for relaxing nerve system -DIERS Formatic 4D device

I have previously used the gym and Redcord. I know that these tools are great on their own; along with the other tools this is a superior treatment. Add to that the training occurred under the supervision of my coach all the time. Dagmara has followed me throughout the day, through all the exercises.

I am very satisfied with the training program as, AMEDS Rehabilitation Program, has design it. I hope more MS patients get the opportunity to experience the consistently high quality of training that I've done. The progress I made, I can take with me home when the period is finished. The best review I can give - I will definitely return for my third rehabilitation later in 2014.

I didn't think that there would be any positive effects on me...
2013-10-24 - Magdalena Oldin, Sweden

I am back in Sweden and I feel great. I didn't think that there would be any positive effects on me... I felt horrible when I left the hospital. I had slept bad - my back hurt because of lying still for so long, I had problems with my bladder etc, etc. So I was so tired and stressed, I didn't have time to shower or brush my teeth or anything.  In the hotel (it was a really  good hotel) I was in the bathroom for several hours. My husband took a walk to the old town in Warsaw. Then I fell asleep at 6 pm. Saturday morning I suddenly noticed that I could move the toes on my left foot a little bit and I could lift the foot a bit. I felt a warmth in my whole body, even in the left side. I could turn around in the bed easier. I could sleep on my right side, I haven't done that for many years.

Now since I got home I feel better all the time. I can't feel the fatigue anymore, I am lighter in my legs, it's easier  to get up the stairs, it's easier to rise from a chair, I can use my left hand much better... Last night I could stand up without holding on to anything! Thank God!

And thank you! Give my regards to all the people I met, the sweet and thoughtful nurses, the kind and professional doctors... Most of all, hugs and love to Dr Pawluczuk! He is my hero! I wish you all the best!

Kind and grateful regards,

Magdalena Oldin from Sweden

If you are considering the CCSVI procedure, I can highly recommend Ameds Centrum in Poland.
2013-07-22 - Heather Kaute, mother of patient from the UK

If you are considering the CCSVI procedure, I can highly recommend Ameds Centrum in Poland.   Your co-ordinator will arrange everything from medical appointments to flights, booking the hotel and any necessary transportation while you are in Poland. All of the medical team and administrators are very friendly and speak English! You will be very well cared for during your stay. The hospital is very clean and run extremely efficiently.

Coordinator's support

I recently accompanied my daughter, Lowenna, to Ameds Centrum.  Arranging the check up visit was made incredibly easy for me.  Justyna Wojtalik, our co-ordinator, arranged appointments for Lowenna’s diagnostics, physiotherapist and dietician.  She booked the hotel en route to the hospital and arranged for me to stay in the very comfortable guest room in the hospital while Lowenna was at Ameds Centrum.  Justyna is always courteous and helpful.  If you are considering the CCSVI procedure, Justyna will help you every step of the way.  When our plans changed, she happily re-arranged things for us – nothing was too much trouble.

Ameds Centrum gave me back my life :)
2012-11-15 - Lowenna Kaute, The United Kingdom

This is how I felt after my liberation procedures...normal, as good as!! Hardly any M.S. symptoms, pain free and 100000x better than I had felt!! Love AMEDS so much! :) Looking forward to going back, and making my life worth living again, as struggling and trying to live with shite symptoms every single day....Well, any M.S.'er, or chronic disease sufferer will tell u...It's merely existing, coz there is no quality of life. Ameds Centrum gave me back my life :) One that wasnt a chore to try n cope with every day. I realise this isnt a cure, but it's the closest thing to one. And I also know that I have had to make mistakes, so I can avoid them this time around (ie, maintain exercise,be aware of diet; also be VERY careful in taking any types of prescription drugs etc... The contraceptive pill is a big NOOO for myself with re-stenosis and causing blood clots to form!) Thank u Ameds, will see you soooon :)

After undergoing angioplasty of iliac vein in Ameds Centrum I have noticed many changes in my health status!
2012-07-31 - Julia from Montreal, Canada

After undergoing angioplasty of iliac vein in Ameds Centrum I have noticed many changes in my health status.

I noticed a big improvement in my balance. Moving around my house and the city is much easier now. I don’t have problems with leg-drop anymore and I walk faster now. I have some slight problems with my foot but the whole leg is stronger. There was a breakdown in my building and I was forced to walk up 11 floors! It would never happen before the treatment in Ameds!

I don’t feel tired during the exercises (Pilates, yoga, physiotherapy) anymore. Stiffness of my lower limbs – there has been a major improvement, especially when I wake up in the morning.

I swim and  exercise more often. I noticed that I don’t feel so tired as I used to before the treatment. I can swim 300 meters without a break now - I could swim only half of that before my treatment. Finally, I haven’t noticed any leg spasms since my angioplasty…

I am waiting for more positive changes and I will keep you posted!
